"Pelekas" Necklace (100 Million Year-Old Fossil Ammolite, 22k Gold)
"Pelekas" Necklace (100 Million Year-Old Fossil Ammolite, 22k Gold)
Carolyn put a new spin on her signature "Pelekas" necklace using a 13 carat fossilized Ammolite gemstone as the centerpiece rather than the usual opal. This rare organic gem is forged by nature (over 100 million years in the making) from the pearlescent aragonite shell of ancient ammonite mollusks which roamed pre-Cambrian seas, in what are now the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada. Ammonites are the ancestors of the cephalopod chambered nautilus of today, from which we get "mother of pearl". The iridescent nacre of Ammolite commonly comes in red, green, yellow and orange, but this one has the rare and coveted flecks of blue, purple and pink as well. 17.5 inches of hand-woven 22k gold chain and a granulated bezel showcase the unique beauty of this unique organic gem (approx. 1" x 1.25"). Ammolite deposits are finite and diminishing, so this piece cannot be reproduced. This is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted treasure for the discerning collector who loves natural history and lasting value, and will surely become a treasured family heirloom.
